How it works

Do my customers need an app?

No. NFC is built into every smartphone since 2014. They tap, a link opens. No download, no setup, no account.

Doesn't NFC stop working on metal?

Cheap NFC stickers do. TapCraft is engineered specifically to stay reliable on metal — counters, laptops, appliances, car dashboards. That is the whole reason this exists.

Does it need a battery?

Never. NFC tags are passive — the phone powers them at the moment of the tap. The TapCraft will outlast the phone you tap it with.

What phones work?

iPhone 7 and newer (2016+) and essentially every Android made since 2014. The first tap on newer iPhones is automatic — no setup, no unlock gesture.

Why does the tap work when QR codes don't?

A QR code is a request: open the camera, aim, focus, hope the lighting is right. Studies put real-world QR success around 30%. NFC skips every one of those steps — the phone reads the tag the second it gets within a few centimeters. TapCraft is engineered for >95% read success across the phones people actually carry. That is the whole point of the patent.

What standards is TapCraft built on?

ISO 14443 Type A and NFC Forum Type 2 / Type 4 tags, operating at 13.56 MHz. The tag carries an NDEF URI record that points to a unique short link on our cloud platform — that is what makes the destination changeable. More on the Technology page.

The product

Can I change what the link points to later?

Yes. Every TapCraft opens through a managed short link you can update any time. New menu, new listing, new campaign — the physical unit stays the same.

Can I put my logo on it?

Yes. The cleanest print comes from a vector file — an SVG, the kind your designer can export. If you only have a PNG or JPG, reach out and we will quote the conversion work. Fine detail or very small cutouts may smooth out slightly in 3D printing; we will get as close to your artwork as the process allows and flag anything we don't think will reproduce cleanly before we run it.

What's the warranty?

Every display ships with a 2-year warranty on the NFC chip and antenna. If it stops tapping, we replace it.

Where are they made?

Burlington, North Carolina. Each one is assembled and packed by hand.

Updates & analytics

How are link updates priced?

You can update your link yourself for free through the dashboard. The paid service plans ($8–$25/mo) add scheduled updates, multi-destination routing, and tap analytics.

Will I see how many times the display is tapped?

Yes, with a service plan. Basic shows monthly totals; Professional and Enterprise show per-day charts, device breakdown, and referral source.
